The Internal Revenue Service pushed back the tax-filing deadline until May 17, 2021
The move will give taxpayers and tax professionals an extra month after the original deadline of April 15. Individual taxpayers can also postpone federal income tax payments for the 2020 tax year that were originally due on April 15, 2021 to May 17, 2021.
- However, the relief does not apply to Federal estimated tax payments for the first quarter 2021. These payments are still due on April 15, 2021.
- The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue announced that they will also extend the deadline for taxpayers to file their 2020 personal income tax returns and make final 2020 income tax payments to May 17, 2021.
- PA is also following the IRS decision on the 2021 estimated payments.
We will provide more detail about this important development when more information becomes available from the IRS and the state of PA.
