April 15th Deadline
Remember that April 15 is the due date this year to file your individual tax returns or an extension if you need more time to prepare them. This does not extend the date to pay your outstanding liability. All tax payments for federal, state and local governments must be paid with your return or extension.
After Tax Season Holiday – Office Closed
We would like to thank all our clients and friends for their support during this past tax season. We appreciate your business, and we thank you for recommending us to your family and friends. We also want to thank our employees for their hard work and dedication by rewarding them with time off to reacquaint themselves with their family and friends. Our office will be closed Friday, April 18 and will reopen Monday, April 21 with our normal business hours.
Interesting Tax Facts from the U.S. and Abroad
On a lighter note, as we approach the end of tax season, here are some facts to think about. Hopefully, we all can get a laugh from some of them.
- When the IRS began requiring taxpayers to list their dependents Social Security numbers in 1987, seven million children vanished from tax returns.
- Al Capone was one of the America’s most notorious mobsters, but he didn’t go to jail for murder. Instead, he was convicted of tax evasion and sentenced to 11 years in prison.
- In 1992, musician Willie Nelson released “The IRS Tapes: Who’ll Buy My Memories?” to help pay off his tax debts.
- The U.S. federal tax code was 400 pages in 1913 and rose to 70,000 pages in 2010.
- Bribes were tax deductible in Germany until 2002.
- Business owners in Conegliano, Italy must pay a shadow tax if their sign or awning creates shade on public walkways.
