ANOTHER QUICKBOOKS FRAUD SCHEME

ANOTHER QUICKBOOKS FRAUD SCHEME

Recently we posted a piece about QuickBooks Online users having their data stolen and held for ransom. Since then, a new fraud scheme has gained popularity in the form of crooks impersonating Intuit (QuickBooks) representatives with malicious intent.

What the impersonators are doing:

  • Making unsolicited support communication attempts to QuickBooks users alleging malware infections or corrupted files and demanding access to user data to fix these issues. Of course, these claims are bogus. Note these communications include fraudulent phone calls AND emails.
  • Demanding payment for additional services not requested such as long-term subscriptions which do not exist.
  • Soliciting sale of fraudulent versions of QuickBooks Desktop software - Intuit no longer offers new subscriptions for its Desktop version (current user versions are still supported).

Remember, the QuickBooks support team will NEVER reach out to you unless you’ve requested for them to do so. If you are unsure if a communication attempt from a QuickBooks representative is legitimate, you can call their team that handles such issues at 1-800-4-INTUIT.
